ok, ok... i hate the 80's as much as anyone, but let's not get scattershot about it.

what's inherently evil about velcro on shirts? it would be sweet to have a shirt with velcro letters that you could change to say whatever you want when you wear it.

and vans? please, an entire shoe company? like vans have never made any good shoes? every shoe company made stupid looking sneakers in the 80's... hell, most sneaks still look stupid.

ok- this is just what _I_ hated about the 80's

vans- because they just were not original- and all the boys that were mean to me in school who- called me "7-up - never had it never will"..wore them, and thought they were cool....

sure- velcro I suppose can be easy access, but that clothing maker "esprit" made them in the 80's and they were horrid. I am not attacking the companies ot ideas- just the memories of these said things _I _ have of the 80's

    random bad memories:

getting hit in the head with a hammer (the wooden part) in a fight (1983)

choosing to move from l.a. to alaska...IN JANUARY, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BIGGEST SNOWSTORM EVER (1985)

no I think I have bad memories of how badly I got made fun of back then....sheesh!
I was smart and geeky. They called me "7-up never had it never will" and bird nose, and I had long legs ( well, still do) but I was good at the running high jump in field day and got totally made fun of..and I knew all the answers in school, and I had no friends, and it was pathetic....BUT all the pretty girls back then, are now frumpy and have kids, and I am georgeous now- and when I go back home they are so nice to me..gross..heh heh

i've lost touch with all the people from school as soon as i could. even when we were at the same high school but in different classes, tried to have as little to do with any of them as i could. i think putting kids in school is a kind of revenge by the 'grown up', you know, like they're saying if we can't have any fun we're gonna make sure you're as miserable as can be.

ok- in the 80's I was 15- and went to the gynecologist. As I was in the stirrups, on the ceiling above me was a poster of Tom Selleck! Talk about so bad it was bad....was that supposed to turn me on or something???

i think it was there for exactly the opposite reason. turn you totally off so as to make sure you dont get off while having a strange men with gloves poke around your privates.

Every time I close my eyes I see a whole gaggle of Madonna-wannabes, with fingerless gloves and jelly bracelets...and I can't seem to get the words of "One-Night In Bangkok" out of my head! It's a curse I tell you...a curse! I can't seem to shake the thought that somewhere my cousin has a blackmail photo of me and my high-hair from before a Guns N'Roses concert! HHHHHEELLLPPPP!!! Never mind the Bunny!..a photo of my human self is forthcoming. Otherwise I was at Leprecon (Foley's photos) with Fonduie! I was the one who knew all the words to "You Might ThinK" by the Cars. P.S. I really hate Olivia Newton-John!

Hi, my name is Trina and I barely survived the 80's...anyway...

I just was reading thru the posts on this one and had to join so I could thank whoever it was that had to bring up AHA....as soon as I read that and the 'Take me on' title, the song (chorus only) looped in my head and is now stuck....thanx!!! That band (along with many others) SUCKED...big time!!!!!!!!!

It's funny too...how much some of these items are coming back. I actually just bought myself some new rubber bracelets...
awe yeah! pink & black and I feel down right cool wearing 'em.
Remember the shoes girls...how super uncomfortable were they to break in???? damn...I still have the scars!!! I always bought the clear ones with glitter....

I live in Upstate NY and it is amazing to see how many people are SUPER stuck in the 80's. Mullets everywhere, perms galore, and now that it is April, the Firebirds & Camaro's are being brought out from storage to sit in front yards---
The mullet wearing idiots must think of them as total chick-magnets!!!!

There are so many scary images skipping around in my mind right now....you know, I actually wore a Hawiaan shirt with the collar up, skin tight jeans (from hip to ankle) w/scrunch socks and a pair of stupid white sneakers to a Julian Lennon concert and totally thought he was going to not only think I was a hottie but he would want to marry me!!!!! Great concert, stupid outfit.....where is Julian Lennon now????

I also just recently went on a hairband rampage and went to my local flea market and bought all the hairband music I had back in the 80's ($1 buck a tape).....it was so much fun!!!! Europe, Poison, Whitesnake, Stryper, Tesla, Def Leppard....oh, the list is never ending!!!!

Oh--uhhh....I really did hate the 80's....I know it didn't sound like it just then....but really.....uhhh....I did...yeah, gotta go!!!!

~Trina (I hated that none of the folders, pencils, wrapping paper, balloons, erasers...weren't available with my name--damn, I hated the 80's)!!!!!!!!!

Hi Trina, Welcome to our little support group :)

i think it was me who brought up a-ha, please accept my humblest apologies.

sadly too many horrors of the 80s are coming back now. i've seen people in the street with leg warmers, ankle high jeans and i'm pretty sure those shirt denim skirts we see now are a throwback to the 80s as well. scary.

Don't stress the a-ha thing--I got sweet revenge--I was with some friends and brought it up and even sang a little of that song (I only know the damn chorus) anyway, they got pissed at me because they all got it stuck in their heads...heee heee... it just kept spinning in their heads..."round round baby round round--like a record baby...round round round round...."

                  On a more serious note:
I really do hate the 80's....but.... (always a but)
one of the last posts on the tribe I was just on is starting to discuss pink floyd....really, I don't know what is worse....
the 70's sucked waayyyy... worse than the 80's--wonder if there is a tribe for that?????

                  (insert scary shudders here)....

i actually love the 70s... granted, i didnt get to experience them first hand so i'll ammend that. i love the way the 70s are represented in popular culture. i love flares. disco is totally fun to dance. the whole pimping thing is just so politically incorrect, you have to love it. i really enjoyed watching the starsky and hutch movie. looooove the 70s baby!

I just got stuck on all the pink floyd, led zepplin, hendrix crap....whew....thanks for the reminder!!!
